Nigeria’s Ministry of Works has announced intentions to implement toll fees for users of the 227.2-kilometre Abuja-Keffi-Makurdi road.
David Umahi, the Minister of Works, made this announcement on Tuesday during the launch of the tolling operation at the Garaku Toll Station in Nasarawa State, stating that the road’s rehabilitation and upgrading were funded through a Preferential Buyer Credit Loan from the China Export and Import (EXIM) Bank.
As per the toll fee structure for this road, saloon vehicles will incur a charge of N500, while SUVs/Jeeps will be charged N800, minibuses N1000, and multi-axle vehicles will have a fee of N1,600. Frequent users of the road, specifically commercial light vehicles, will benefit from a 50% discount.

Bello Muhammad Goronyo, the Minister of State for Works, who represented the minister, explained that implementing road tolling is essential for the effective and efficient upkeep of all road networks nationwide.
The minister also noted that the initiative is in line with the objectives of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to construct a robust and interconnected infrastructure that facilitates ease of movement, boosts the economy, fosters a self-sustaining and resilient transport network, promotes economic growth and job creation and develops both urban and rural regions across Nigeria.
