The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) announced on Sunday that a series of airstrikes in Zamfara State had killed several top bandit commanders and inflicted heavy casualties on their networks.
In a statement, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, revealed that the strikes, conducted in collaboration with ground troops, also left numerous bandits injured.
While the exact number of casualties was not disclosed, local intelligence confirmed that the bandits, aligned with notorious leader Kachallah Bello Turji, suffered significant losses.
“Scores of bandits were neutralised, while many others, including top commanders, sustained injuries,” Akinboyewa said.
However, the whereabouts of Kachallah Turji remain unknown, adding further pressure on his network.
The operation, part of Operation Fansan Yamma, was described as a coordinated air-ground assault aimed at restoring peace to the region. According to Akinboyewa, the strikes were precisely executed, with real-time intelligence ensuring accurate targeting.
Bandits attempting to flee eastward were met with further engagements, neutralising additional targets. Rockets and cannons were deployed in successive strikes, inflicting severe damage on the bandit forces.
The success of the operation was celebrated by locals, who expressed relief and gratitude. Several kidnapped victims were also rescued, providing renewed hope to affected families.
The NAF reiterated its commitment to collaborating with ground forces to eliminate criminal elements and ensure the security and prosperity of the nation.
