At least 10 passengers were confirmed dead in a fatal road accident in Katangi area, Machakos County in Kenya on Monday.
The vehicle, also known as Matatu was conveying passengers from Zombe market in Kitui East to Nairobi when the driver lost control while negotiating a corner.
The Matatu rolled several times and nearly plunged into the Athi River, killing the passengers on the spot.
Machakos County Police Commander Patrick Lobolia confirmed the tragic incident to the media, adding that survivors were rushed to the hospital for emergency medical attention.
“It seems from the appearance; that the driver was unable to control the Matatu on the sloppy stretch towards the river,” he said.
“We have mobilised several ambulances to rush the injured passengers to nearby hospitals in both Kitui and Machakos counties for emergency medical attention,” he said.
