Tragic Road Crash Claims 25 Lives, Some Foreign Nationals in Tanzania

A devastating road accident on the highway leading to the northern city of Arusha in Tanzania has resulted in the loss of lives, with foreign nationals from seven countries among the victims.

The collision occurred when a Kenyan-registered truck collided with three other vehicles, one of which was transporting foreign nationals volunteering at a local school.

According to a statement released by the presidency on Sunday, the crash claimed the lives of ten women, fourteen men, and one girl.

Additionally, at least twenty-one individuals, including foreigners, sustained injuries in the accident.

Among the deceased were nationals from various countries, including the United States, South Africa, Kenya, Togo, Madagascar, and Burkina Faso. The injured individuals hail from Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Switzerland, Britain, and Mali, as reported in the statement.

Authorities are actively searching for the driver of the truck responsible for the accident, who reportedly fled the scene following the incident.

President Samia Hassan has extended her heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and emphasised the importance of motorists adhering to road safety regulations to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
