A bus driver for Lagos State Bus Rapid Transit, Osibanjo Oluwaseun, has been arraigned before an Ikeja High Court on Tuesday in Nigeria. The driver was involved in a collision with a moving train at Ikeja in March and allegedly caused the death of six individuals.
The state government brought 16 charges against the defendant, including counts of involuntary manslaughter and previous harm. The Director of Public Prosecutions, Babajide Martins, informed the court that the driver negligently caused the death of the victims by disregarding warning signals and driving into an oncoming train. Additionally, he caused grievous harm to ten other passengers on the bus through negligence.
The prosecution alleges that the defendant is culpable for the tragic incident due to his recklessness and negligence. The arraignment is part of the state government’s efforts to ensure justice is served for the victims and their families.
The case is being heard before Justice Oyindamola Ogala. The prosecution is expected to call witnesses to testify and present evidence to prove the defendant’s guilt. The defence will have the opportunity to present its case and challenge the prosecution’s evidence. The court will ultimately determine whether the defendant is guilty of the charges brought against him and will sentence him accordingly.
