South African comedian Trevor Noah has made history by clinching an Emmy award in the Outstanding Talk Series category for his renowned show, The Daily Show.

Noah’s triumph marks a significant milestone as the first African and the first black person to secure an Emmy in the outstanding talk series category since its introduction in 2015.

After the win on Monday night, Noah expressed his elation, stating, “It’s amazing that I get to be a part of this journey. It feels like being part of a winning football team.”

This achievement comes after Noah’s sixth nomination in the Emmy category. Despite being nominated five times previously, it was his sixth nomination, earned in his final season hosting The Daily Show, that secured the historic win.

In September 2022, Noah surprised many of his fans by announcing his departure from The Daily Show after seven years as the host. The search for his replacement is still underway.

Notably, this is not Noah’s first Emmy; he previously earned one in 2017 for Outstanding Short Form Variety Series.

The Emmy awards stand as the most prestigious honours in the U.S. television industry.
