Nigeria’s movie industry Nollywood has been making giant strides due to its authentic storytelling, A Tribe Called Judah star, Tobi Makinde, has said.
The Nollywood star made the statement on Monday during an interview on News Central TV show, Jasiri.
Funke Akindele’s movie A Tribe Called Judah has strengthened Nollywood on the world map after grossing over N1 billion in cinemas.
The movie has been the talk of the town, sweeping attention across other continents, after surpassing N854 million in December barely six weeks after its release.
Makinde affirmed the key to Nollywood’s success when actress and radio/tv host Lolo1 asked if the industry was telling authentic African stories.
“Yes, we are, and that is evident to the success we have recorded so far. Because now, Nigerians can relate with the kind of stories we tell… With the characters.” Makinde said.
The blockbuster, A Tribe Called Judah, currently ranks as the highest-grossing movie ever in the history of Nigeria’s movie production.
Also at the Jasiri show were Heads of Programmes Tolulope Adeleru-Balogun and News anchor Blessings Mosugu.
