Zimbabwean Comedian Clive Chigubuli has died of cancer on Wednesday morning, his family announced. The standup comedian, 31, was battling with Diffuse Large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL), a type of cancer which had left him bedridden for weeks.

Chigubuli recently detailed his battle with cancer in a local weekly and appealed for financial assistance. He said; “In late September, my nose got blocked after I suffered from a really painful ear. At the time I thought it was the usual flue. I steamed but I couldn’t clear the blocked nasal passage. In November, I had a sore throat which affected my voice and then in January I was diagnosed with DLBCL at the United Bulawayo Hospitals.

“Up to now I’m still in the process of seeking treatment and I’m deeply worried because I haven’t received any treatment due to the slow processes in the system and also financial constraints. This is happening while this cancer is still spreading.”

Condolences have started pouring in for the entertainer. Musician Asaph posted: “Sleep well brother #RIPCliveChigubu.”

Socialite Wellence Mujuru wrote: “Two days ago I saw a story on FB about Clive Chibugu battling cancer then today I woke up to the news that he has passed on, he was part of my best Zimbabwean comedians list. #RIPCliveChigubu.”

CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere “I’m so sad to learn of the passing of comedian Clive Chigubu. He was a beautiful, hilarious soul. Thank you for the laughs champ. Sending sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. Gone too soon.”

Radio legend Ezra Tshisa Sibanda said Chigubhu was an “amazing talent gone too soon.”
