US President Donald Trump has indicated that military supplies, reportedly including 2,000-pound bombs, are being delivered to Israel. His statement follows reports that the Biden administration had previously halted such shipments.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday, Trump claimed, “A lot of things that were ordered and paid for by Israel, but have not been sent by Biden, are now on their way!” While he did not specify the exact munitions, Israeli journalist Barak Ravid reported via Axios that Trump ordered the Pentagon to lift a hold placed by the Biden administration on the delivery of the heavy bombs.
The Biden administration had paused the transfer of 2,000-pound bombs last year when Israel appeared set to launch a large-scale ground offensive in Gaza. US officials expressed concern over the potential humanitarian consequences of using such munitions in densely populated areas, warning they could cause significant civilian harm.
However, in the final days of Biden’s presidency, a tentative truce between Israel and Hamas brought a fragile end to the Gaza conflict, which had been ongoing since Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. The ceasefire has been held, with Israel and Hamas engaging in a prisoner exchange over the weekend.
During his first term, Trump touted his strong alliance with Israel, frequently declaring himself its most supportive American president. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu often echoed this sentiment.
However, tensions emerged after Netanyahu congratulated Biden on his 2020 election win, which Trump falsely claimed was fraudulent. Trump accused Netanyahu of disloyalty, according to reports from that period.
Trump’s recent comments signal his ongoing support for Israel and suggest a renewed emphasis on military cooperation under his direction.
