Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, making a rare comeback at 78 after losing to Joe Biden four years ago.
Trump vowed to immediately tackle immigration and US culture wars as part of his dramatic return. Unlike his first 2017 inauguration, where he was a political outsider, Trump now enters office surrounded by the nation’s elite, including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, and Sundar Pichai.
Musk, a major backer of Trump’s campaign, will help lead cost-cutting measures. Despite Trump’s refusal to attend Biden’s 2021 inauguration, Biden returned for a traditional gathering with former presidents.
In an unusual move, Argentina’s far-right president, Javier Milei, and Italy’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, attended the ceremony.
Due to freezing temperatures, the event was held indoors, missing the usual crowds. Trump is expected to sign around 100 executive orders, undoing much of Biden’s legacy. Key policies include declaring a national emergency at the Mexico border and restricting birthright citizenship.
