Tunisia's inflation rate eases to 6.8%

Tunisia’s annual inflation rate has eased to 6.8 per cent in June 2019 from 7.0 per cent in the previous month.

It was the lowest inflation rate since February last year. Prices slowed mostly for food & non-alcoholic beverages (6.0 per cent now vs 7.3 per cent in May); transport (9.2 per cent vs 9.5 per cent); clothing & footwear (8.7 per cent vs 8.8 per cent) and furnishings (8.9 per cent vs 9.0 per cent).

Conversely, costs rose further for housing and utilities for 5.2 per cent at present vs 5.1 per cent in May.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.3 per cent, after increasing 0.5 per cent in the previous month.

Inflation rate in Tunisia averaged 5.24 per cent from 1963 until 2019, reaching an all-time high of 16.70 per cent in July of 1982 and a record low of -1.90 per cent in June of 1970.
