The Tunisian National Guard said Wednesday that it had taken down a Daesh/ISIS terrorist cell in the country’s southeastern province of Tataouine.
An Interior Ministry statement said that the six-member cell was dismantled in a “preemptive operation” by Tunisia’s National Guard’s anti-terror unit.
The cell’s members had pledged allegiance to the Daesh/ISIS terror group and had planned to manufacture explosives to be used in carrying out attacks, the statement said.
Tunisia has witnessed a spate of terror attacks since 2011, mainly targeting security personnel and foreign tourists.
