Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur has announced that she will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2024 WTA season due to a shoulder injury. The announcement was made on Monday.
The three-time Grand Slam runner-up has faced challenges with form and fitness this year, resulting in a drop to 22nd in the world rankings. Jabeur was forced to withdraw from the recent US Open because of the injury and has not competed since her defeat to Naomi Osaka in Toronto in early August.
“This year has been extremely hard for me and as athletes, we know that recovery is part of the journey. Due to my ongoing shoulder injury, my medical team and I’ve made the difficult decision to step off the tennis circuit for the rest of the season,” Jabeur shared on social media.
She and her medical team have decided that stepping away from the tour for the rest of the season is the best course of action. The 30-year-old athlete expressed her intention to return to competitive play at the start of the 2025 season in Australia.
