Tunisian tennis player Ons Jabeur is set to play her first-round match at this year’s US Open in New York.
The 26-year-old goes into the tournament as the 27th seed.
Jabeur, who is currently ranked number 31 in the world will face the unseeded 27-year-old Katarzyna Kawa of Poland on court 12.
Earlier this year, she reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open for the first time in her career, defeating Britain’s Johanna Konta and Frances Caroline Garcia in the first two rounds.
She also saw-off Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki in third round in what turned out to be the last match of Wozniacki’s career, but then lost out to eventual champion in America’s Sofia Kenin, the current world number 4 and tournament second seed.
Jabeur also reached the third round of last year’s US Open having recorded wins over Garcia and Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus before losing out to current world number 3 Karolina Pliskova, the Czech and women’s singles top seed who already recorded a straight sets 6-4 6-0 victory over Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina to reach the second round.
Victory for Jabeur in her opening match will see her face either Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic or Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi in the second round.
