Turkiye reopened its embassy in Damascus on Saturday, raising its flag for the first time since closing the mission in 2012 amid Syria’s civil war.

The reopening, led by newly appointed charge d’affaires Burhan Koroglu, follows a week after rebels ousted former leader Bashar al-Assad. Representatives from the rebel-led transitional government attended the ceremony in the capital’s Rawda district.

Turkiye has been a key supporter of Syrian rebel factions throughout the conflict. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan confirmed the embassy’s operations had resumed, marking a significant shift in Turkish-Syrian relations.
