Türkiye Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, has urged the international community to give Palestine state recognition and oppose the U.S. veto.
The minister was speaking at a joint news conference with his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug in Istanbul.
“It is unjust that Palestine is not allowed to become a member of the UN. We call on the international community to oppose this injustice and recognize the state of Palestine,” he said.
Both ministers discussed the “ongoing massacre in Gaza,” and will continue to collaborate to offer support to end hostilities and deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
Fidan also said that the two nations will continue to work tirelessly “until an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, with its capital in East Jerusalem and territorial integrity, is established based on the 1967 borders.”
Türkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had earlier met Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Istanbul on Saturday.
