Tutu Statue Adorned with Palestinian Scarf Unveiled in Cape Town as Symbol of Solidarity

In Cape Town, a statue honouring the late South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, adorned with a Palestinian scarf, has been revealed, symbolising his unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.

The Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation announced that the statue would be displayed temporarily, with the exhibit scheduled to conclude once the bombing of Gaza comes to a halt.

This artistic expression comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the region, where Israel states its mission to eliminate Hamas, while consistently bombing innocent women and children.

The health ministry in Gaza reports a significant toll, with over 23,350 people, predominantly women and children, killed by Israel in the ongoing conflict.

Archbishop Tutu was a vocal critic of Israel’s policies towards Palestinians, drawing parallels between these actions and the apartheid authorities in South Africa. The ANC party, which governs South Africa, has consistently advocated for the Palestinian cause.

In a legal arena, Israel is currently defending itself against South Africa’s accusation of carrying out genocide in Gaza at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. Israel contends that South Africa has distorted the truth, presenting a “sweeping counter-factual description” of the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
