Twelve Lives Lost Daily in Sudan Camp - MSF Raises Alarms

In a dire humanitarian alert, Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has sounded the alarm on a catastrophic situation unfolding in a refugee camp situated in the North Darfur region of Sudan.

The organisation has grimly declared that all emergency malnutrition thresholds have been surpassed, urgently pleading for a significant increase in international aid.

The Zamzam camp, located near the city of Fasher, is witnessing the loss of at least one child every two hours, painting a heartbreaking picture of the severity of the crisis.

The ongoing conflict between Sudan’s regular army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) has led to the displacement of approximately eight million people since April of the preceding year.

The World Food Programme estimates that nearly five million individuals across Sudan are now grappling with emergency levels of hunger, a figure that has doubled since the commencement of the conflict.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, MSF emphasises that it has managed to deliver crucial aid to a mere 10% of those desperately in need within conflict-ridden areas, stressing that immediate international intervention is paramount to avert further tragedy and alleviate the suffering of those caught in the throes of this crisis.
