The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command, has arrested two suspects in Aba for alleged child trafficking and abduction.
Command spokesperson ASC Doreen Udugwu identified the suspects as Uche Royal, 24, from Imo State’s Ohaji council area, and Chidera Donatus, 20, from Nenwe in Agwu Local Government Area, Enugu State.
The arrests on December 26, followed credible intelligence, leading to the rescue of a three-year-old girl, Chiamaka Ahamefula, in Ukpaka Ukwu, Umuahia.
Udugwu revealed that Donatus was introduced to Royal by an accomplice named Danji, who remains at large. Investigations indicate the suspects have been involved in trafficking for some time.
Abia NSCDC Commandant Akinsola Aderemi reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities and confirmed the case would be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for prosecution.
Aderemi urged parents to prioritise their children’s upbringing and remain vigilant against such crimes.
