Two people were killed and seven others injured when a bridge collapsed at an expressway construction site in Anseong, South Korea, on Tuesday.
Dramatic footage aired by local media showed a section of the bridge crumbling, sending a large cloud of smoke into the air. The National Fire Agency confirmed that two people died, six were seriously injured, and one suffered a minor injury. Authorities are still searching for one missing person.

The incident occurred around 9:50 am, approximately 65 kilometres south of Seoul. The location was initially reported as Cheonan, but this was later corrected. Acting President Choi Sang-mok has issued urgent directives to deploy all available resources for the ongoing rescue operation.
This accident highlights the ongoing safety challenges in South Korea’s construction sector, where more than 8,000 work-related deaths were reported between 2020 and 2023.
