While Afrobeats dominated the entertainment scene last year, it was equally a groundbreaking time for the Nigerian film industry. Now, two Nollywood Movies: Battle on Buka Street by Funke Akindele and ljakumo: Born Again Stripper by Toyin Abraham, have made history as the 1st Nollywood movies to debut in United States Cinema across 11 cities.
Battle on Buka Street has continued to hit exclusive Theatres since December 30, 2022. It’s no surprise it hit international markets, the comedy-drama hit N135 million in Nollywood box office in barely two weeks, the biggest single day for a Nollywood film in 2022 at N26m.
With a star-studded cast from mercy Johnson, Femi jacobs, Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale amongst others, the plot centers on the ‘battle’ between two women who confront each other in a food challenge to win the prestigious ‘King of Buka Street’ title conferred on the best local food seller in the region.
ljakumo on the other hand drops from January 13, 2023, also exclusively at select theaters. The 2022 suspense thriller film was produced by Toyin Abraham and boasts an ensemble cast including herself, Kunle Remi, Bimbo Akintola, Olumide Oworu, Lillian Afegbai among others.
