Two Rescued from Collapsed Building in Osun State

The Osun State Police Command has revealed that two people were rescued from a collapsed building in the Sabo area of Osogbo, Osun State.
Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the Osun Police Command, said in a statement that during the rescue operations by the security agencies, two people were trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building.
The one-storey building collapsed in the morning on Sunday, July 14, 2024.
Reacting to the development, Osun state governor, Ademola Adeleke, through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, warned developers and residents against constructing buildings without approved building plans.

The number of trapped victims was not determined in the initial report, as Adeleke Kehinde, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) spokesperson in the state, stated that the figure stood at five individuals.

She said, “The said building collapsed at about 07:30 hrs today, Sunday, July 14, 2024, entrapping 5 people.
“Two people have been rescued so far while the remaining three are entrapped under the decking that requires the use of a crane.”

Adeleke further mentioned that the command had previously issued a report on June 10, alerting that the structure, which was being utilised as a refuge by criminals, posed a danger to the local residents.

She said, “The building we reported was an eyesore, and we recommended raiding by the task force and the environmental body to sanitise it.”
However, the Nigerian police stated that one of the two rescued people sustained visible injuries.

Opalola said, “Part of the rescue activities of the victims of the collapsed building at Sabo area of Osogbo today by the Osun State government. Amotekun, led by one Asiwaju, were also there.
“Finally, it was discovered that only two persons were trapped and rescued. One sustained no visible injury while the other that sustained injury is responding to treatment in the hospital.”
