In Uganda, two students have been detained after receiving an anonymous terror threat against their school. SCP Fred Enanga, a spokesman for the Ugandan police, reported that the 16 and 17-year-old students acknowledged writing the letter that contained the terrorist threats against three schools.
Their admission came after investigations revealed that the two senior students had actually written the letter.
“The territorial Police in Greater Bushenyi and Sheema District, has in custody, two senior students of St Charles Lwanga High School for issuing an anonymous terroristic threat of attack by ADF against his school.
“The facts gathered indicate that on July 5, 2023, the school leadership came across an anonymous letter, with threats of a terror attack, on St Charles Lwanga High School and two other schools in Kasese (St Andrews primary school and Kibingo primary school), which was dropped at the entrance of one of the classrooms,” Enanga said in a statement.
The dormitory captain reported the two students for acting erratically, and the police said they claimed they wanted to frighten the school administration into penalising them.
The duo will likely be committed to the juvenile prison facility after being charged with making violent threats.
Enanga warned Ugandan students from expressing threats of violence. He argued that making such threats is illegal.
“We would like to warn students that making threats of violence or attack or use of firearms is not a joke, but a criminal act,” he said.
