U-20 World Cup: Record-breaking Sagna shoots Senegal past Tahiti

The fastest goal in the history of the FIFA U-20 World Cup came on the first day of the competition in Poland as Senegal’s Amadou Sagna scored against Tahiti after 9.6 seconds of action in Lublin.

Sagna put his name in the history books with his opener as Senegal got a 3-0 win over Tahiti. The 19-year-old Cayor Foot player scored two more goals to get his hat-trick at Arena Lublin to help Senegal to a flying start in Poland.

The previous fastest goal on record was by Nigeria’s Monday Odiaka in 1985 when he scored after just 14 seconds.

Group A’s other match saw host nation Poland lose to Colombia 2-0. In Group B, Mexico lost to Italy 2-1, while Japan and Ecuador played out a 1-1 draw.

Later today in Group D, Nigeria will face Qatar and Ukraine will take on USA. In Group C, it will be Honduras vs New Zealand and Uruguay vs Norway.
