U.S. Special Forces Kill ISIS Leader

President of the United States, Joe Biden on Thursday announced the killing of the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

A statement by Biden confirmed that Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi—the leader of ISIS has been ‘taken off’.

A senior official in the Biden administration confirmed to Reuters that Al-Qurayshi had exploded a bomb which led to his death and saw some women and children killed.

The statement by the President said; “Last night at my direction, U.S. military forces in the northwest Syria successfully undertook a counterterrorism operation to protect the American people and our Allies, and make the world a safer place,”

Biden said he will address Americans later on Thursday.

“Thanks to the skill and bravery of our Armed Forces, we have taken off the battlefield Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi—the leader of ISIS. All Americans have returned safely from the operation. I will deliver remarks to the American people later this morning. May God protect our troops.”

Former ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed by the US forces in an air raid in North Syria in October 2019 with Qurayshi announced as his replacement.

The Islamic State has set up African provinces with major cases in West and Central Africa where ISWAP and ISCAP have killed thousands of civilians. Through its links in North-East Nigeria, where ISWAP has been devastating and in Mocimbo De Praia, Mozambique and Eastern DR Congo where ISCAP is killing thousands of people, the Islamic State has extended its devilry to Africa.

It’s left to be seen if its second major loss in less than three years will do enough to dislodge its camp.
