The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has officially recognised Sunday Ude-Okoye, a former National Youth Leader, as the party’s National Secretary.
In a statement released on Wednesday by Debo Ologunagba, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, the PDP NWC said it must adhere to the Court of Appeal’s ruling.
The NWC indicated that it has started sending its resolution that confirms Ude-Okoye as the PDP National Secretary to the Independent National Electoral Commission and other pertinent authorities for acknowledgement, in compliance with the Court of Appeal’s verdict.
”The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its meeting today, Wednesday, February 12, 2025, extensively considered the memo dated 11th February 2025, presented by the Acting National Chairman on the issue of the National Secretary of the PDP.
“After due consideration of the memo and the attachments, the NWC overwhelmingly recognises, acknowledges and confirms Rt. Hon. S.K.E Udeh Okoye as the substantive National Secretary of the PDP in full compliance with and obedience to the judgment of the Court of Appeal, recognising that there is no subsisting or superseding judgment or order from any court of superior authority or hierarchy.” the statement said.

The PDP NWC appreciated its leaders, members, and stakeholders’ loyalty, adherence to the rule of law, and continued support during this crucial period.
It reassured everyone that the party would stay devoted to its Constitution, the rule of law, and its founding principles to ensure stability, growth, democracy, and the welfare of Nigerians.
Discontent related to the National Secretary position escalated when Ude-Okoye was nominated by the South East to succeed Anyanwu, who had been selected for the governorship of Imo.
On December 20, 2024, the Court of Appeal ruled in favour of Ude-Okoye; however, disagreements persisted. On January 28, supporters of Anyanwu forcibly ejected Ude-Okoye from a Board of Trustees meeting, highlighting the need for intervention.
On January 31, PDP governors, led by Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State, affirmed the court’s decision in Asaba, Delta State, and officially recognised Ude-Okoye as the rightful National Secretary.
