Barcelona will be without their fans for their next away Champions League fixture and must pay a €10,000 (£8,700) fine after a racist banner was displayed by their supporters, UEFA announced on Friday.
During their 2-1 loss against Monaco on September 19, Barcelona fans displayed a “Flick Heil” banner, a reference to the Nazis’ “Sieg Heil,” targeting the club’s German coach, Hansi Flick.
“FC Barcelona reject any type of justification for violence,” the club said in a statement, confirming they would comply with the ruling. The club also committed to strengthening measures to prevent similar incidents in the future and holding responsible individuals accountable.
Barcelona’s next away game is against Serbian side Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade on November 6.
