A senior lecturer at the Nagongera campus of Busitema University, Uganda, was reportedly discovered dead in her bed on Tuesday.
Close relatives of Dr. Angella Karoro from the Faculty of Science and Education found her body and speculated that a blood clot or high blood pressure may have caused it.
The publicist for Busitema University, Dr. Charles Muweesi, confirmed the death but declined to provide further information because they had not yet received the autopsy report.
“It’s true one of our senior lecturers died, but we are yet to establish the cause of death because the postmortem report is yet to be availed to us,” Dr Muweesi said.
A coworker of the deceased, Ms. Agnes Masajja, said the tragic news caught them off guard because Dr. Karoro was on campus on Monday going about her business as usual and appeared to be in good health.
“Those who were close to her said she was in her normal mood and attended to her office chores before retiring home. It’s unfortunate to hear that she passed on,” Ms. Masajja added.
The body was taken to Mulago Hospital for an autopsy, the results of which had not yet been given to the university as of Wednesday morning.
Following the postmortem, the body will be transported to the deceased’s ancestral home in Bushenyi District, according to Dr. Muweesi, with burial tentatively scheduled for this week’s Friday.
“As I speak, her body is being taken to her ancestral home in Bushenyi, where a funeral service will be held at All Saints Church, Bushenyi, ahead of burial,” said Dr Muweesi.
