The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced the dates for the 2022 national examinations, beginning in October with the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations.
In an announcement on Thursday at Uganda Media Centre, UNEB executive director Daniel Odongo said the 2022 Senior Four examinations will take place from October 14 to November 18.
Odongo announced that the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) would be held from November 7 to November 9, while those preparing for the Senior Six will take their exams from November 18 to December 9.
Schools across the country have commenced registering candidates following the announcement of the dates for all three sets of national examinations.
Registration of candidates commenced on February 2, and it will continue until May 31 for normal registration. Schools that register candidates after May 31 will be subject to a 50 percent surcharge for UCE and UACE, and a 100 percent surcharge for PLE.
School heads who misappropriate registration fees also face stiff penalties according to the examination body.
In the UNEB Act 2021, Section 32 stipulates that a person who fails to remit registration fees for students commits an offence and faces a fine not exceeding Shs40m (2,000 currency points) or imprisonment not exceeding 10 years, or both.
“Such a person shall also pay back the money collected to the concerned students or their sponsors. Where the person convicted is a registered teacher, the person shall be disciplined under the relevant laws regulating the teaching profession,” he said.
Similarly, head teachers who charge more than the set registration fees will be fined Shs40 million or imprisoned for ten years.
UNEB has set the fee for PLE candidates at Shs34,000, for UCE candidates at Shs164,000, and for Senior Six students at Shs186,000.
Schools, however, claim they impose higher fees because fees do not take into account other costs incurred by candidates during registration.
