Preliminary results announced by the Electoral Commission of Uganda has put incumbent President, Yoweri Museveni in the lead.
The commission said the results came from 8,310 polling stations in the country and will release more as tallying progresses.
Early preliminary results show Museveni of the National Resistance Movement leading with more than 800,000 votes as he currently has a total of 1,536,205- standing for 65.02% of total votes cast.
Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) of the National Unity Platform and the closest opposition has 647,126 votes cast- standing for 27.39% of total votes.
Patrick Amuriat, who has been the outlier so far has 84,969 (3.60%) of total votes.
The electoral commission had said it will announce the results of the election in 48 hours.
Ugandans trooped out on Thursday to vote in an election that pits the sitting President, 76-year-old Museveni, one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders against 38-year old pop star and parliamentarian, Bobi Wine.
