Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), the direct opposition to Yoweri Museveni’s bid to be re-elected as Uganda’s President has claimed that he alongside his campaign team have been arrested.
Bobi Wine, who was arrested in November over the killing of some of his supporters during a campaign march said his campaign’s media team was also blocked.
Bobi Wine earlier today accused Museveni of blocking his campaign on the grounds of COVID-19 but campaigned in the same place, which is one of his strongest zones.
“Citing COVID, they bannned campaigns in districts with highest number of voters, where we have loads of support! Yet Gen. Museveni campaigns there under the guise of launching projects. Paid supporters gather to cheer him under state protection! The shame!” he said.
He also on Tuesday revealed that Museveni has ordered the Police to work with partisanship in favour of the ruling party.
Last week, he accused the country’s military of killing his bodyguard and wounding three journalists.
Museveni and Bobi Wine have been launching diatribes at each other ahead of the January 14 Presidential election.
Museveni, 76, has been Uganda’s President since 1986. In 2017, he sponsored the parliament to remove an age limit on the Presidency, which would have stopped him from contesting again.
While Uganda has term limits, it was renewed to suit Museveni’s bid.
Bobi Wine, a musician has posed a radical opposition to Museveni, banking on Ugandans’ supposed desire for change and a youthful population as he heads into the election.
