Renowned Ugandan religious leader and businessman Aloysius Bugingo narrowly escaped an attack by unidentified gunmen, resulting in the tragic death of his bodyguard in the capital, Kampala.
The assailants opened fire on Pastor Bugingo’s vehicle as he was heading home on Tuesday night in the Namungoona area. Following the attack, the gunmen fled the scene on a motorcycle.
Despite sustaining injuries during the assault, Pastor Bugingo displayed remarkable resilience by driving the vehicle to a nearby hospital, according to the police.
Regrettably, his bodyguard, Richard Muhumuza, succumbed to gunshot wounds. Police authorities are examining CCTV footage to identify the attackers, expressing concern that the scene has been tampered with.
Describing the incident as an attempted murder, the police are actively investigating the motives behind the attack.
Pastor Bugingo, the founder of the House of Prayer Ministries International, is a staunch supporter of the ruling party in Uganda. While the motive for the attack remains unknown, the incident adds to the growing concerns over an upsurge in gun violence in Uganda, which has claimed the lives of several prominent individuals in Kampala in recent times.
