Ugandan star athlete and Olympic gold medalist, Peruth Chemutai won her first race of 2022 in the Netherlands on Monday.
A cheerful Chemutai finished first at the FBK Hengelo Games in the European country to the delight of the watching crowd.
She won the 3000m Steeplechase in a time of 9 minutes and 14 seconds.
It wasn’t a perfect race, as the Ugandan had to defy the odds of a wet track and windy conditions to win the race.
Since her triumph in Tokyo last August, Chemutai has not been fortunate enough to win any race.
Her place in history is however unrivaled as she is the East African country’s first medalist at the Olympics.
Albanian Luiza Geza came second behind her in the Netherlands while Celiphine Chespol finished third in a time of 9:15:89.
Next up for Chemutai is the World Championships in Oregon, United States in July, where she will work to add more feathers to her cap.
