Ugarte to Have Man United Medical After PSG Deal Agreed

Manchester United has agreed with the French giants PSG to acquire midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The initial payment from United will be £42.2 million, but with performance-related add-ons, the deal’s total value could reach £50.7m.

Ugarte, United’s central midfield target this transfer window, is anticipated to arrive in the UK on Tuesday for a medical examination and to finalise personal terms.

PSG initially sought the same £51.1million they paid Sporting Lisbon last summer, but all parties showed a willingness to compromise to complete the deal. United is reportedly content with the negotiated deal.

Ugarte will join United just a year after PSG’s £51.1m acquisition of the player from Sporting Lisbon. Both PSG and United aimed to secure a permanent deal, although discussions also revolved around a loan agreement with an obligation to buy.

Before progressing with the deal, United needed to offload players, and the departures of Facundo Pellistri to Panathinaikos and Hannibal Mejbri to Burnley freed up enough space in Erik ten Hag’s squad for Ugarte this summer.

The player did not feature in PSG’s match-day squad for their Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre, which resulted in a 4-1 victory for the reigning champions.

Despite starting only 21 games throughout the 2023/24 campaign, the midfielder topped the French top-flight in tackles last season with 98.
