Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta has restated his support for candidate of the Azimio La Umoja, Raila Odinga.
The 77-year-old Odinga is on his fifth attempt at the Kenyan Presidency. He was the Prime Minister during a power-sharing era in the East African giant nation.
Kenyatta, whose Deputy, William Ruto is the candidate of the Kenyan Kwanza also criticised Ruto for speaking against a government he sits on.
Nawaomba nyinyi kwa heshima …yule ambaye mimi nitapatia aendelee naye iwe sio mwingine isipokuwa Raila Amollo Odinga (And am respectfully asking you… the one person I will give to continue with the work is none other than Raila Odinga),” the President said.
“Sometimes I am shocked by what some leaders say in public. When they see good things they say, ‘you can see what our government has done’, but when things go wrong, they start saying the government has failed,”
“Do not be cheated by nice-talking leaders who want to be elected for selfish reasons but have no commitment to public good,”
Kenyatta and Ruto had been involved in a bloody feud with Odinga but political tides have now swept both men against each other.
Odinga is believed to be favourite going into the polls as he has the backing of the incumbent President and is coming on the back of a stronger coalition.
