President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday presided over the launching of the Mama Margaret Kenyatta Children’s Hospital in Nairobi’s Mathare North neighbourhood.
The President expressed his delight at the completion of the level six facility and its readiness to serve residents during the inaugural ceremony on Friday.
“I am glad to see that the residents of this part are getting medical services from our experts. Thank you,” he said.
He further said that if leaders unite and work together, Kenyan lives will be changed, noting that it will serve as a referral hospital to the surrounding medical institutions.
Kenyatta stated that 19 of the projected 24 facilities had been finished to treat ordinary Kenyans who cannot afford private hospital care.
“These hospitals have now treated hundreds of thousands of Kenyans in the last two or three years.”
Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) resurrected the building of the 350-bed hospital in July 2021.
Due to administrative and financial concerns, the hospital’s development has been postponed for almost 30 years. Kenyatta National Hospital will be in charge of the facility.
He thanked everyone who assisted with the project and promised to attend to all sewage issues and connecting roads.
Patient caseloads at KNH have decreased since the new hospital opened, according to the president.
