The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) in the United Kingdom has issued a statement calling on its members not to aid police in removing protesters advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza.
In the statement, the union highlighted ongoing pro-Palestine demonstrations in Leicester and cautioned against involving firefighters in law enforcement activities.
FBU General-Secretary Matt Wrack emphasised that firefighters’ primary role is to save lives and protect communities, stating that there is no justification for their involvement in the removal of protesters. He reiterated the union’s support for the rights of protesters and their call for peace and justice in Gaza.
Kasy LeGall, FBU representative in Leicestershire, underscored the union’s longstanding solidarity with the people of Palestine. LeGall affirmed the union’s support for those advocating for a ceasefire and an end to arms supplies to Israel. “The Fire Brigades Union has a long and proud history of standing in solidarity with the people of Palestine. This solidarity extends to all those currently protesting for a cease-fire and an end to the supply of arms to Israel,” LeGall said.
