At least 12 Palestinians have been killed since Tuesday in Israel’s ongoing military operation in the occupied West Bank, according to a statement by United Nations Human Rights Office spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan.
The UN confirmed that 40 others have been injured, with most of the victims reportedly unarmed.
Al-Kheetan raised concerns about the ongoing violence as well as the expansion of Israeli settlements in the region, which he reiterated constitutes a war crime under international law.
The Israeli military offensive began in Jenin and its refugee camp on Tuesday, with ten Palestinians killed during the assault and over 40 others wounded.
The situation escalated further that evening as Israeli forces deployed reinforcements to Jenin, entering from the Jalameh checkpoint.
Bulldozers were used to destroy streets near key sites, including the Ibn Sina Hospital and Jenin Governmental Hospital.
An Israeli military presence also took hold in the Jabal Abu Thahir neighbourhood, where bulldozers accompanied the troops.
