The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has condemned the growing conflict between Yemen’s Huthi rebels and Israel, particularly criticizing Israeli airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport as especially alarming.
In a statement, Guterres’ spokesperson said, “The Secretary-General condemns the escalation between Yemen and Israel. Israeli airstrikes today on Sana’a International Airport, the Red Sea ports, and power stations in Yemen are especially alarming.”
Israeli airstrikes hit multiple targets, including Sanaa’s international airport, with the media reporting at least six fatalities. The strike followed a missile and drone attack launched by the Huthis at Israel just a day earlier, in retaliation for previous Israeli airstrikes.

World Health Organization chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, revealed on social media that he was at the airport during the attack, and a UN crew member was injured. The UN reported that three people were killed in the airstrikes, with dozens more injured.
Guterres expressed grave concern about the impact of the airstrikes on humanitarian efforts, particularly the bombing of transportation infrastructure in Yemen, where 80 percent of the population relies on aid.
The UN chief also condemned the Huthi rebels for their escalating actions in the Red Sea and beyond, describing them as a threat to civilian safety, regional stability, and freedom of maritime navigation. The Huthis, reportedly aligned with Iran’s “axis of resistance,” are a key player in the ongoing conflict against Israel.
