UN Explores New Aid Route from South Sudan to Alleviate Humanitarian Crisis in Sudan

The United Nations is exploring the possibility of delivering aid to Sudan through a novel route originating in South Sudan, aiming to address the challenges faced by aid agencies in accessing various parts of the country.

Rick Brennan, representing the World Health Organisation (WHO), revealed that they are considering the establishment of cross-border operations from South Sudan into South and West Kordofan in Sudan. The protracted nine-month war has given rise to a severe humanitarian crisis, creating an exceptionally challenging working environment.

The conflict, pitting the army against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has resulted in nearly half of Sudan’s population requiring urgent aid. Over seven million people have been displaced from their homes, rendering Sudan the epicentre of the most significant displacement crisis globally.
