Ethiopian Rights Commission and the United Nations will release a report on the abuses in the Tigray region, almost one year since the war broke out.
Tigray has however reacted to the commission and said investigators hardly went to the people that were most gravely affected by the war.
The current war in Tigray has been replete with allegations of human rights and refugee law violations according to the United Nations Human Rights Commission.
The war which broke out in November 2020 has seen Ethiopian and Eritrean military officials of mass killings, gang-raping and unlawful killing. Tigray soldiers have also been accused of the same problems as national soldiers. Ethiopian and Eritrean refugees have been maimed and raped by soldiers since the war began.
More than 400,000 people have been forced into famine, thousands of civilians killed and more than 2.5 million locals have fled their homes in northern Ethiopia where the war has raged on.
An official of the United Nations’ Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNOHCHR) was among seven officials deported from Ethiopia for reporting human rights abuses in the war.
Findings from the war and the report by the human rights commission may form a legal basis for international prosecution for war crimes.
