UN Security Council to Discuss Somalia-Ethiopia Tensions Over Port Deal

The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to convene to discuss the growing tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia concerning a controversial port deal with the self-declared republic of Somaliland. The meeting, set for Monday, is expected to address the “concerning events in the Horn of Africa,” according to Somali state TV, SNTV.

The dispute emerged after Ethiopia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland earlier this month. The agreement provides Ethiopia, a landlocked country, access to a seaport for both military and commercial purposes. However, Somalia, which claims Somaliland as part of its territory, rejected the deal and accused Ethiopia of violating its sovereignty.
