Nigeria’s Flying Eagles came third at the ongoing Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Friday in Egypt after a 4-0 thrashing of Tunisia’s Young Carthage Eagles.
The Nigerian team took the lead in the third-place shootout at Cairo International Stadium in the ninth minute thanks to Ibrahim Muhammad. Ahmed Abdullahi doubled the advantage a minute after the halftime break, before Jude Sunday scored twice in the 48th and 90th minutes to cement Nigeria’s dominance. Sunday’s first goal was a fantastic solo effort, and his second came in stoppage time with a fierce drive from the side of the box.
The Tunisian squad had a higher percentage of possession of the ball with 54% vs. Nigeria’s Flying Eagles with 46%, but it was not enough to make a difference.
In addition to Senegal and The Gambia, Nigeria and Tunisia will represent Africa at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, which Indonesia will host from May 20 to June 11.
The competition’s final game will be played on Saturday at the Cairo International Stadium between Senegal and The Gambia.
