The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) appointed Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as the acting Vice-Chancellor during a recent Senate meeting on campus in Abuja on Wednesday.
Prof. Maikudi, 41, previously served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics. Her appointment, announced by outgoing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, is temporary pending ratification by the Governing Council.
In her acceptance speech, Maikudi thanked the Senate for their support and expressed gratitude for their confidence in her.
Professor Maikudi began her career at UniAbuja as a Lecturer II in 2008 and was promoted to Professor in 2022.
She has held various leadership roles including the first female Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law in 2018 and founding director of the UniAbuja International Centre in 2019.
Her academic career includes extensive research in United Nations Law and participation in conferences worldwide, including in the US, UK, South Africa, Germany, Italy, and Egypt.
She is a member of several professional organisations, including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Nigerian Law Teachers Association (NLTA), and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).
Born on January 31, 1983, Professor Maikudi is the youngest female Professor of Law in Northwestern Nigeria and at UniAbuja.
She completed her secondary education at Queens College in Lagos, and pursued her higher education at the University of Reading, where she obtained an LLB in 2004 and an LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2005.
She earned her Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in International Law from UniAbuja in 2015.
