The University of Lagos (UNILAG) entrance gate was inaccessible on Wednesday after members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAATS) of the University of Lagos launched a peaceful protest over delayed payment of withheld salaries.
The protesting unions blocked access to the school premises as they expressed their dissatisfaction with the Federal Government’s inaction towards their plight.
News Central reported that the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SSANU and NASU commenced a seven-day warning strike on Monday, March 18 after the government failed to address their concern. Academic activities were grounded as a result of this.
NAATS joined the strike as it entered the third day, also demanding to be paid their withheld salaries.
Meanwhile, the federal government has reportedly invited the protesting unions for talks today, Wednesday, SSANU National President Muhammed Ibrahim confirmed.
