During extensive discussions with the Ethiopian prime minister, the US secretary of state emphasised the significance of fully implementing the peace deal between the federal government and Tigrayan forces.

According to Antony Blinken, all parties involved in the two-year conflict must answer for the atrocities they committed, and regions devastated by the fighting should be open to human rights observers. The fighting was finally put an end last November.

According to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the two men talked about the peace deal after the conflict erupted between federal troops, their Eritrean allies, and the Tigrayans.

Another $330 million (£247 million) in aid for Ethiopia was announced by Mr. Blinken, who also met with Tigrayan officials.
