The Imo State University Alumni Association, (IMSUAA) has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to honour the agreement reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
IMSUAA in a statement, noted that the opening of Universities would “save our undergraduates the avoidable ordeals of remaining at home while their counterparts world over are in schools receiving lectures and advancing in their development.”
Recall that ASUU, on March 14, announced its decision to extend the four-week warning strike which started on February 14 2022, by another four weeks, stating that the Federal Government “failed to satisfactorily address all the issues raised in the 2020 FGN/ASUU Memorandum of Action (MoA) within the four-week roll-over strike period.”
Meanwhile, ASUU national president, Professor Victor Emmanuel Osodeke, in a statement two weeks ago, said the FG was yet to take any concrete steps towards addressing their demands, adding that it showed nonchalance towards education, on the part of the government.
“There has been no meeting to resolve the issue between ASUU and the FG. They’ve not reached out, we are still waiting for them.
“The government is not really interested in education. If they were interested, they wouldn’t allow the strike to last more than 1 week…
“As Nigerians, they (students) have a right to protest if the system is not working because we have given our own reason why we are on strike,” Prof. Osodeke said.
