At least eleven people remain trapped under the rubble after a building collapsed at the Megamound Estate, Mobile Road, Ikota, in Lekki, Lagos, yesterday. The incident claimed two lives, while four others were rescued and taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), remain on-site, working to rescue those still trapped in the two-storey building.
News Central confirmed there were two killed in the tragic incident.
The five rescued victims, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, were immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention.
The cause of the collapse had yet to be determined at press time. Eyewitnesses told News Central that the building gave way around 4 p.m on Tuesday or earlier.
Upon receiving a distress call, the Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro, ordered the immediate deployment of a disaster management, rescue, and recovery team to the site.
The team, led by the Eti-Osa Divisional Officer, Chief Superintendent of Corps David Oyende, coordinated with other emergency responders to begin search, rescue, and evacuation efforts.
“The Command’s personnel at the scene have confirmed the successful rescue of four persons alive.
“Rescue operation is still ongoing,” Keshinro confirmed.
