US Backs Israel for Rafah Operation in Exchange for No Retaliation Against Iran

Reports indicate that the USA has accented to Israel’s Rafah operation in exchange for refraining from counterstrikes on Iran.

According to a source, Israeli discourse about a response to Iran contradicts the desires of the American administration and is deemed unrealistic.

The source also disclosed that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) conducted airstrikes near the Gaza Strip-Egypt border, with prior notification to Egyptian officials.

This development follows statements from Israeli officials expressing their intent to retaliate against Iran. Israel’s ambassador to the US, Michael Herzog, remarked that Israel’s response to Iran would be swift, hinting at the possibility of Iran’s missiles being equipped with nuclear warheads in the future. Additionally, Egypt is demonstrating the readiness of its forces along the border with the Gaza Strip.

Professor Ayman Salama, an expert in Egyptian law, emphasised that any military action in the region would require approval from Egypt. He stated that Israel cannot unilaterally establish secure zones or alter the security arrangements outlined in the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel in response to perceived threats.

Egypt shares a significant border with both the Gazan city of Rafah and Israel, making it a key stakeholder in the conflict between Israel and Iran.

Egyptian officials have stated their preparedness for any situation, stressing the importance of evacuating Rafah’s civilian population before any border closures.
