Effective January 1, 2025, the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has re-examined its immigration visa procedures.
Candidates who have interviews will now make at least two trips to the Consulate General in Lagos throughout the procedure, the embassy said.
On Tuesday, its official X page issued the directive.
“During the immigrant visa process, you must visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice if your interview is scheduled after January 1, 2025.
“This new procedure aims to avoid major delays in the processing of your immigrant visa and to assist you in getting ready for your interview,” it stated.
The first visit to the US Consulate in Lagos would be for an “in-person document review” with a consular staff member, according to additional information on the embassy’s website. “This review ensures that applicants are prepared for their visa interviews,” the statement read.
“The review helps to prevent delays in application processing by enabling applicants to obtain any missing documents before their visa interviews,” it went on.
On the other hand, the second interview is with a consular officer. The National Visa Centre (NVC) will set the date for the interview with candidates.
“You will need to reschedule your appointment if you do not finish the in-person document review before your visa interview.”
According to reports, the embassy said that a new visa services provider will take over operations at its consulates in Abuja and Lagos beginning on August 26, 2024.
The American Embassy’s verified social media sites and official website both made the announcement.
